So whether you are working in south beach, on vacation or visiting from another area in Miami, don't hesitate to seek back pain treatment as soon as possible. If you are unable to come in right away, we would still like to help you with a little back pain relief advice. Take a look below at some things you can do to relieve your back pain immediately.

Cold and Heat Therapy

Researchers at the New Jersey Medical Center (UMDNJ-NJMC) discovered that the continuous (eight hours daily) application of low-level heat (104 degrees F) eased acute back pain better than either of two commonly used drugs, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen. Dry heat sources include heat lamps, heating pads or "wearable" disposable heat packs that you can find at most grocery stores or pharmacies. Moist heat sources include warm baths and washcloths soaked in warm water.

If you are aching all over, sitting in a nice warm bathtub can provide you pain relief in all your joints and back.

Cold therapy also can numb the affected nerves and distract your mind from the source of your pain. Applying a cold ice pack can reduce pain and swelling.

But, using ice for too long can cause stiffness. Dr. Borenstein recommends using cold for pain in the first 24 to 48 hours after the pain starts. To avoid causing damage to the skin, apply cold packs for no more than 15 to 20 minutes at a time. Always put a towel or plastic between your skin and the cold pack.

Exercise in the Water

Water allows your muscles to relax and acts as resistance to help build muscle strength. Warm water is a good place to stretch and strengthen your back muscles. Exercising in the water will take away the pressure and weight that compresses your spine. With no gravity pushing on your joints you can be a little bit more flexible allowing you to unkink any tightly compressed areas. You can do warm-water exercise on a smaller scale in your own tub, spa or whirlpool bath.

Find a way to Relax

Sometimes stress can be a big factor in pain and tightness. "Stress heightens our awareness and feelings of discomfort," says Dr. Borenstein. And feeling pain adds to stress. Relieve stress with exercise, a movie, talking with a friend or family member, taking a break at work, getting out of your house or area where you live for that matter. A lot of people take yoga and you can find some yoga videos online. Treat yourself to a good meal, go shopping, or just take a drive to a nice scenery in your car. Find some things that you love to do and just do them.
