Leg Checks

We will check for the existence of a cervical syndrome before and after every adjustment. If the misalignment of a cervical vertebra is acerb enough to cause interference to the nervous system, then a vertebral Subluxation complex exists. The cervical syndrome will cause the information of conscious and unconscious proprioception from the lower extremity to be disrupted. The Subluxation creates an ersatz message, which is sent to the cerebellum, then the thalamus and eventually to the leg area of the cerebral sensory cortex. The vital information of how the body is to be properly positioned in space is stored in the cortex. Any new information from the cerebellum is compared to these normal values and the motor cortex creates the appropriate changes through the bulboreticular system(tectospinal, rubrospinal, vestibulospinal, and reticulospinal tracts). Once information for postural change is relayed down through these tracts, it is transferred out through the anterior horn to the ventral nerve root and eventually to the gamma efferent nerve endings, which attach to the muscle spindle. Efferent information to the muscle spindle changes its shape, which then has an effect on the length of the muscle itself.

When the muscles of the pelvis and lower limb become unilaterally hyper tonic due to this mechanism, then there exists a physiological leg length inequality. This is the neurological basis behind the leg checks used at Café of Life Chiropractic.

Chiropractic Thermography|| Objectifying Subluxation

Since the early days of chiropractic, there have been many attempts to devise systems or instruments that will verify the presence and correction of vertebral subluxations.

Thermographic Temperature Readings

Thermographic temperature readings are obtained on patients on each visit to our office. Very sensitive infrared light is used to compute the external body temperature, which is normally 93.5 degrees. This temperature should not be confused with the normal internal body temperature, which is 98.6 degrees for most people.

The infrared light is a handheld instrument which is slowly glided from the lower spine to the top of the spine while the temperature is computed throughout.

A graph printout is then produced by the computer console, and these graph printouts are kept as part of the patient's permanent file.

Through Chiropractic research, we have determined that the external body temperature is controlled by the spinal nerves. The body is normally composed of dermatomes, which are areas of the skin that are controlled by the spinal nerve roots. This instrument is glided over each dermatome in the spine.

These temperature readings are very valuable in monitoring the changes that take place in the spine and with the spinal nerves, and while they are not specific in diagnosing spinal problems, they are helpful in identifying areas of nerve interference in the spine. Usually, when positive changes have taken place with the thermographic readings, then a change can be expected to be observed radiographically.

The use of measuring skin temperature has been used in chiropractic since Dossa Evans and B.J Palmer invented the Neurocalometer. Chiropractic patterning has existed since 1924. We will be using the DTG. The DTG is a single probed infrared instrument that measures infrared heat given off from the spine. Thereby, assessing sympathetic innervations to the peripheral blood vessels. The AMA Council Report on Thermography (1987) stated, "Central control of skin temperature affects both sides of the body uniformly and simultaneously, resulting in symmetry of thermal patterns. The presence of significant temperature difference between corresponding areas of opposite sides of the body is suggestive of nerve impairment. Thermography can detect sensory/autonomic dysfunction." Temperatures will be displayed on the screen; colder areas will be on the left and the warmer areas on the right. Our three goals in using the graph 1) getting rid of any cold areas 2) getting degree temperature ranges within one degree 3) getting the graph as straight as possible.

Pro-Adjustor (Precision Spinal Adjustor)

The Precision Spinal Adjustor is a state-of-art- electromechanical device, which is used to reposition and unlock the spinal vertebrae. This instrument can be used in conjunction with or in lieu of the manual treatments.

A before precisely measured pulse of energy is delivered to a solenoid-operated instrument head once a preselected contact force is obtained between the instrument and the patient. The impulse received by the patient is precisely adjustable and repeatable. The minimum energy necessary for a treatment can be selected from a wide range of energy levels.

It is computer-controlled, and an internal microprocessor monitors the energy level, executes changes in energy level, selects the proper adjusting head and activates the head when the patient contact pressure have been achieved.

Precision Adjustor Reading

There are twenty-four (24) different energy settings. This instrument is very safe to use with children and elderly patients.

The Precision Spinal Adjustor had been clinically tested through our research studies, and it has also been tested on patients under the fluoroscope. Therefore, we have been able to observe the exact effect that this instrument has in repositioning the spinal vertebrae.
